Kildare Youth Project




Kildare Town Youth Project (KTYP)  



                                  

           
What are we about? 

Kildare Town Youth Project is a community-based project that provides a range
of development and learning opportunities and services for young people in Kildare Town. They are provided for and with young people, their families and communities to be responsive to their changing needs. 


We use a Youth Work approach working with Young People aged 11 – 25 years in recreational and educational programmes in a group setting. 




What do we do?                                                 

We run programmes such as:                                                     


· Drugs and alcohol 
· Sexual health                                                                         
· Mental health 
· Suicide 
· Relationships 
· Cookery programmes                                                                 
· Teambuilding 
· Art 
· Healthy lifestyle 
· Junior and Adult leadership programme 
· Stepping stones programme to support young people in 6th class making the transition from 6th class in        primary school to Secondary school. 
· We also provide one to one support for various issues coming up for young people involved in the                 project. 






KTYP’s Groups 

Each of these groups has been engaged in the project since their homework group in 6th class. They plan their own activities and issues they want to work on and how they want their group to run. 

We also provide one to one support to young people with various issues coming up for them such as listening, information, seeking help, advocating and referrals. 



The 1st Year  Group
 This is a mixed group currently working on the Posh Night Programme.
This group takes place every Monday from 4:30pm- 6:00pm!



Junior Drop- in
The Junior Drop-in is a mixed group of males and females in 1st -3rd year. The Drop- in space provides young people with a safe space to socialise and to carry out things they enjoy doing such as; pool, listening to music, chatting and playing games. Stepping Stones Group 

The Stepping Stones group is a group of 12 -14 young people who are currently in 6th class and will be making the transition from primary school to secondary school. Stepping Stones is a programme that will start in Spring 2016 and will run till June. After the pre-engagement of the programme there will be a week long Summer programme with the opportunity for the group to continue on in the project in September 2016 . It is a programme that recognises and encourages the importance of combining school-based supports and community-based supports for young people at this key phase in their development. 


The Stepping Stones Programme is run to: 

· Make the transition from primary school to secondary school easier for young people. 

· Establish a new group into the project. 

·Ensure young people seek support with any issues moving to secondary school. 

·Address the fears and concerns young people have about moving to secondary school. 

·Develop self-confidence, self-esteem, decision making and peer support amongst the participants.

Senior Drop- In
The Senior Drop-in is a mixed group of males and females aged between 16-18 years. The Drop- in space provides young people with a safe space to socialise and to carry out things they enjoy doing such as; pool, listening to music, chatting and playing games. Every Wednesday  from 6:30-8:00pm.






Mixed Group 13-15yrs

The Mixed Group is a group that  are aged between 13-15 who meet together once a week on Tuesdays from 4:30-6:00pm.   Th group have worked on team building , explored the topic of homelessness in Kildare and are currently working on a Sexual Health Awareness Programme.

Kildare Town Comahirle na nOg


This is a group of young people between the ages of 13-18. This group meet to discuss local issues that affect them and try to come up with ways to deal with them at local levelComhairle na nOg is on  Tuesdays from 6.30pm-8.00pm.
