INCREASES IN YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT IN IRELAND AND ACROSS EUROPE

IS THE FOCUS OF THIS ONE DAY FREE CONFERENCE

“WHERE TO NOW?”

Empowering Young People through Information

22 June 2010

9.30am to 4pm

National College of Ireland, Mayor Square, IFSC, Dublin 1

As youth unemployment soars and the Central Statistics Office report a 40% rise in emigration rates from Ireland in April 2009, Eurodesk Ireland (Léargas) in association with Youth Information Centres, are holding a Conference entitled ‘Where To Now? Empowering Young People through Information’.

Speakers, Fergus Finlay from Barnardos, Mary Cunningham from the National Youth Council of Ireland, and Dr. Maurice Devlin from NUI Maynooth will focus on the themes of youth unemployment, current youth trends, migration, and disadvantaged youth, in the Irish context. Anja Ruhland from Eurodesk Brussels Link will speak about the European context. A panel, facilitated by Michael McLoughlin from Youth Work Ireland will open the discussion out to participants.

The discussion will be followed by practical workshops on Information Tools, European Voluntary Service, Work Opportunities in Europe, Rights and Entitlements of Youth People Abroad, Youth Participation, and Facebook and YouTube in Youth Information Services.

‘Where to Now?’ is aimed at representatives of Youth Organisations, Librarians, Teachers, Garda Diversion workers, Youth Workers, Guidance Counsellors and any other people directly working with young people.

Eurodesk, funded by the European Commission and the Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs (OMCYA), is a free information service on mobility opportunities in Europe and can be accessed in Ireland through Youth Information Centres that are part of the Eurodesk Network. The Youth Information Centres network is also funded by the OMCYA and provides a range of information and services to young people between the ages of 12 and 25 years of age.

PRESS RELEASE-

PLEASE SUPPORT CLAN NáS-NAAS CHILDREN AND FAMILIES BEFORE THE FIRST RACE!

Kildare Youth Services (KYS) are delighted to announce the Clan Nás Spring Fundraising Campaign which begins at the Punchestown Racing Festival next week. Clan Nás Building Project is a worthwhile local initiative building a local state of the art Family Support and Community Childcare premises in Sarto Park Naas.

This will provide therapeutic play and parenting support to all parents in the Naas area, to those that need support for themselves and their children.  ‘Families need support for a variety of reasons’ said Catherine Boonstra Project Leader, ‘these can range from serious illness, bereavement, stress due to separation, redundancy and/or neglect.  Parenting in these times for some can be very difficult. Family support and children’s services have never been in such high demand’ said Catherine.

Clan Nás is supported by the Naas Lions Club, Naas St Vincent de Paul, Naas Town Council and the HSE and local private benefactors.  A site has been donated by the Naas Town Council.  Significant funds need to be raised in order to match any support received from Government Departments.

KYS calls on all our local punters to support Clan Nás on Wednesday 29th April at the Punchestown Festival. It’s your local development.  Please help us to build a better future for children in Naas.

Should you require further information, wish to volunteer or to make a donation to the Clan Nás Building Fund please contact:
