Where is the counselling service based?
The service operates from eight locations throughout County Kildare, Naas, Newbridge, Athy, Celbridge, Leixlip, Kildare town, the Curragh and Maynooth.
The main office is located in the KYS premises at the Canal Stores, Basin Street, Naas. Queries regarding the Counselling Service from any of these areas are
taken at the main office by the administrator @ 045-856968.

What is the Kildare Youth Services Counselling Service?
It is a community based youth counselling service which offers counselling and support to young people (11 -25 years) and their families.
Counselling is available to individuals and their family on a weekly basis. Group work and personal development are arranged on request from
agencies/organisations.

Is this a confidential service?
Yes, the service is confidential in nature and this is discussed and explained to you at your first meeting with your counsellor. You will receive
an information pack by post before your first session which includes a confidentiality form and a parental consent form (for under 18’s) which needs to be
signed and brought to your first session.

How can counselling help you?
The counsellor offers you support guidance and information in a friendly and safe environment & works with you to help you work through your problems.
All our counsellors meet you where you are at. They are not there to judge you or give you advice. What they will do is guide, support and encourage you to
deal with your difficulties in a way that works for you.

What kind of issues do people bring to counselling?
Young people present to the Counselling Service with many different issues. There is no issue too big or too small to bring to counselling, if it is causing
you concern. Some of the issues which young people to date have brought to the service include alcohol/drug related problems, bereavement issues, problems
with bullying, low self esteem, relationship problems, suicidal thoughts, behavioural problems and issues relating to abuse etc.

How does the waiting list at the KYS Counselling Service work?
You can call the Counselling Service direct line at 045-856968 and Kathleen (our Counselling Administrator) will take your name, address and contact
telephone number and put you on the relevant waiting list. The waiting list operates on a “first come, first served” basis. You will be contacted as soon as
an appointment becomes available. We invite you to phone Kathleen at any time to check where you are on the waiting list.

Who are the counsellors?
The Counselling Service team is composed of the Counsellor Co-ordinator, the Counselling Administrator, four full-time Youth Counsellors and a part-time
Youth Counsellor.
All of the counsellors are accredited with one or more of the national counselling bodies - The Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy, The Irish
Association for Humanistic & Integrative Psychotherapy or a registered counselling psychologist with The Psychological Society of Ireland.
